While the deacons have no special ecclesiastical powers, the office of deacon is honored by the Church in a sense that no other office is. The deacons have a nearness to the Pastor that suggests doing whatever may be done to encourage and help with the work. An established relationship of mutual respect and helpfulness between deacons and Pastor can do much toward guaranteeing the progress of their labor in the Lord.
Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. I Timothy 3: 12-13.
